10 Steps on How to Look Like an Expert on Twitter from the Beginning

Are you using Twitter? It is not a passing fad! There are millions of people opening accounts every month. Twitter can be a valuable tool for your home business. There are a few things to do in the beginning to look like someone others will want to follow.
First, open an account using your real name. This is a social site and it is for social purposes so if you want to attract followers you need to show you are a real person. Who wants to be a follower of a made up name?
Second, you need to upload a picture of yourself. This is very important. No one wants to follow a logo or an animal. You may think it looks cute but I assure you your picture and a real name will be a lot better and attract more people.
The third thing to do is create a custom background. That will be another step that shows you are real and it will give others a reason to connect if they can relate to your background. There are many places to get one including Twitbacks.com.
The fourth step is to put a link on your profile to your marketing hub which is your blog. If you don’t have a self hosted WordPress blog you are not going to make a dent in generating traffic using social media. It is the only way you can provide value to your customers and be secure knowing it will be there as long as you want it to be. The advantages are many and important when you compare to a blog hosted at a free blog site. Among them are the facts that you can use your own domain, connect it to your social profiles, include an opt-in form with your offer, use plugins to connect on a personal level and improve your site rank, and it brands you as someone who is serious about their business.
The fifth step is to post 5 to 10 Tweets before you follow anyone. Make them relevant to your niche, interesting, and valuable to those interested in your niche. Tweet about your marketing hub too.
The sixth step is to follow people. Until you have at least 500 followers you should not follow more than 50 people in a day. Do a search for leaders in your niche and follow some of the people who are following them. All you have to do is click on “followers” and start following.
The seventh step is to follow some of the people those leaders are following. Every time you do a search for someone you will be able to click on their followers and those they are following. That is the beauty of it; it is completely open to anyone.
The eighth step is to go to search.twitter.com and do a search for people in your local area. When you find them you should try to connect with them on other sites and build a relationship with them. Meet them for coffee or something. A home business is about relationships and face to face is the best way to build them.
The ninth step is to use the “reply” tab on Twitter so you can single people out and talk directly to them. This feature is really strong when it comes to making connections.
The tenth step is to put your Facebook link in your Tweets and drive traffic there. Make sure your Facebook site has a link to your blog too. This is very important. Instead of putting any links to company replicated websites on your social sites (which gives people the idea that you are only there to make money) you should put links to other social sites and to your blog. You can put links in several places on your blog because you make all the rules there if it is self hosted. People expect to learn about you on your blog.
